Kind of Thirdgen related

So I was cleaning the backyard and found a what used to be nice set of craftsman sockets, rackets, deep sockets and assorted this and thats but they've been back there for a few years and are quite rusted, any possibility of bringing them back to at least useable status?

Sure. It's really easy.

1) Verify that they're actually Craftsman tools. (this is important!)

2) Take them to your local Sears, and ask for an exchange.

3) Receive your shiny brand-spankin' new Craftsman tools and go have fun!

If they're not Craftsman, you're out of luck. Unless they're Snap-on...! Of course, if you want a challenge, you could bust out some wire brushes and some 3M cleaning pads and go to town...

Of course, you could always mail them to me, for cheap. I'll send back some shiny Checker-brand tools to you, so you have shiny tools to use...

I thought Craftsman only exchanged if the tools were broken, not if they were rusted....

They were in a craftsman plastic case, all assorted in there as if someone bought the set brand new and threw it in the back yard for the fun of it without using any of the tools. If you want tools with a lifetime warrenty then check out autozone if they're around you, they have tool sets that have lifetime warrenties, which is good cause the tools are junk but who cares if you get replacements for free.

Craftsman hand tools are guaranteed forever. It doesn't matter what happens to them so long as you can still see the Craftsman name on them.

Or you can just use them. I break craftsman stuff all the time. Especially the sockets.
