Car Stalls At Major Intersections!

1991 Z28 Accel Superram tpi 350 with MSD.

The problem is that when the car is hot and only when im waiting at a major intersection it will die. Then when i restart it the engine will surge up and down a few times, then die again. Sometimes when i try to keep it going by giving it gas it will stay running, but only like a 2 cylinder and will barly move my car across the intersection.

Any ideas maybe ignition?

Possibly a heat-soak problem? Mine would do this after driving for about 2 hours on the freeway. Let it sit for 15 minutes, and all would be well again for a while...... Had to replace the dist. module, and no more problems.

Don't know why it does it, but my old iroc does it too, once every other month or so, and only at the busiest intersections. Just often enough for it to be a surprise every time and make me soil my undies. Seems like my iroc is the poster child for just about every technical problem on these boards. Jus' don' know why, I love it like I do....with all the hurt, its put me through....

moneyman, what type of plugs are you running? Have you bypassed the msd to take it out of the equation? Test what you can in the ign system - cheaper than replacement.

redliter, any codes? Is it often? Tested fuel pressure? Maybe test your MAF relays as well.

Have accel wires and cap and rotor, MSD ignition and coil, ac delco plugs, and fairly new pickup coil and ignition module.

Replaced cap and rotor, had ignition module checked, cleaned and inspected connectors to dist.

Man, I'm in the same situation you are in(except I'm carbed). My car was dying at idle speed stopped at red lights...it's really embarassing seeing imports zipping around your dead car isn't it, happened to me today. Anyway, I've checked my plugs, wires, fuel pump, and fuel filter. Next thing I'm checking is the coil, cap, and rotor. Tell me if you get anything to work.
