DO 3RD GENS QUALIFY AS SPORTS CARS
i'll say it again, that way i can add a post to my count anyways. They are performance cars.
well thats what i would classify them as. Performance cars that don't really perform.

How about, no.
Saying that a car isn't a musclecar unless it has a BBC is just stupid. The 80's economy wouldn't LET them put BBC's in them then and they still don't and won't, but they are still musclecars.

Time to recap at post 52;
Chevy even stopped calling them this, so no it is not a classification when the maker doesn't want to classify them as Sports Coupe. Nice try.
I agree. The new Mustang is like the old Pony cars. It is not a muscle car. How can it be when it's wheels only have 4 lug nuts. And it's a ugly car. I believe Ford redesigned the Mustang because the third and fourth gens were and still are more popular with the American's that want to rebuild a true Sports/Muscle/Performance car. The third gens are beautiful. And they are much more then a PONY car.
When I first heard of a Camaro back in the early '70's when I was a teenager and started going to the Chicago Auto Show this was the adline used. I think it is still true today. Can't you get a fully loaded Camaro/Firebird for about $22,000 with the 'vette engine? Try to buy a new 'vette for that. And a Corvette is as American as you can get.
STOP "zz24fast", You are going to far now! The term MUSCLE CAR is as American as it get's. Don't try to put your non American cars in that catagory. We invented the term and the car. See to us ovev hear your foreign cars are nice but expensive to buy, to repair and to drive. A true MUSCLE CAR can be bought, built and driven for a lot less money then your Austin-Martin, etc. Also you need a BIG block to even begin with. Let us have something over here in the states. MUSCLE CAR is as American as Apple Pie, Baseball/Basketball and the Camaro/Firebird. Give credit where credit is due. Our term, our idea and our car.
Now that the discussion has been going and I have been reading eveyne's opinion, I think I would rather my car be termed a Muscle Car then a Sports Car. More American sounding to me.
Keep the discussion coming. this is good stuff!

Hows about "Sports Coupe"?
A new Mustang GT is a traditional pony car. Its no where near a sports car. Its like a short old school car/musclecar. Big seats, v8, RWD.
Our camaros, firebirds, and T/A's were coined "the poor mans vette".... and the vette seems to be a sports car.
Although it is a term I would put aside for big engined American beasts, there are a couple of foreign cars that I would consider 'Muscle';

Well said, 86NiteRider.
And to the ***** from London, you obviously can't read. Again I state
That statement is in response to ALL of your comments which you made earlier.
You have no say in this post whatsoever due to the fact that you are not an American, and have no right dictating what we like or don't like.
I always heard that Brits are snobs and you are finalizing my judgement. Thank you for the clarification.
Now motor on toward your dwelling.
