Has anyone done a 335 stroker and what kind of gains have you seen from it, also is it worth the money if you upgrade the cam, heads and switch to a good intake and carb? Thanks

 

 

Try searching for 334 also since that's what a 305 block bored out .030" with a 3.75" stroke calculates to.

 

So far from what I can find is a bunch people saying it aint worth the time and money. All I'm trying to find are some people who have done and what kind of results they got.

 

That's easy, the results are always 'not as good as a 383 would have been'.

 

Out of all the people you saw that say it's not worth the time and money, I think there's one guy that actually did it. I can't think of his name right now but if you keep reading the results (I know.... there are a lot and they're long) you'll find him.

I am looking for some one who can give me numbers like HP and torque. Then I will see if it's worth my time and money to build. If not then I can see about building something different.

 

Well **** you can build anything to produce as much hp and tq as you desire. All it takes is money!

 

You can build a 350 for much cheaper than a 305 stroker. You can build a 383 for about the same price.

Why would you want a smaller less powerful engine?

Unless you find someone that has addressed, succesfully, the shrouding problem inherent in the 5.0's design (not counting the Ford 302), you will be underwhelmed at everyone's results comparitively.

 

As an example, <a href=http://www.enginekits.com>enginekits.com</a> has a complete 335 kit for $599. Their 383 kit is only $489. A used 350 block is less than the $110 difference in price.

(I'm not endorsing the company, their parts, or their prices, just using them as an example.)

 

I was thinking about building a 305/335 stroker, but after talking to everybody on this site, I decided to get a 406 instead. Thanks again to everybody who talked me out of my stupidity as this was a much better choice. The guy that has the 335 is named Tunedport 335. He posts on here a good bit so it ought to be pretty easy to find him.

 

Thanks for your opinions. I am going to go bigger or not at all. Unfortunately, it is going to be after summer before I can do anything, but it will be done.

 

The trouble you're having finding success stories w/ the 335 should be telling you something...

 

People don't even try with a 305 because of the 305 vs 350 backlash and the fact that prices are cheaper for the 350. Not saying that the 305 is a bad block to start with, but no one wants to give it a chance and put the money into it, because you could get more with a 350.

A ported stock base and aftermarket runners would be a good match for a 305, imho.

 

Yeah...I see now. I was thinking about it because not alot of people that I know of have tried to build a 305. So more or less it was to try and see what its potential is. Thanks for all the opinions. Guess I'll spend my money on a different motor.

 

About 4 years ago a friend of mine used to have an 89 iroc 335 stroker with GMPP Corvette H.O. heads and a decent cam with all the other bolt ons 3.73 gears and a tremec tko 5 spd, he was running 13.1-13.3 He did it just to be different.

 

Go for a 400 small block...you won't be disappointed.
