This is the best way to swap motor mounts

Ok i just found out the best way to swap motor mounts. All i involves is removing one bolt. The bolt is the easy on to get to on the bottom. Them you get out your trusty big *** lever/pry bar and bend the mounting bracket up out of the way. Its really slick and you can swap both in 5 minutes.

I did this because I was awesome and managed to put one in backwards. Were are like ****, we are not taking that **** off again, so....

I figure its find because you only have to do it once in the cars life time.

Bend away!

the mounting bracket??? My issue is I can't get at the damn nuts inside the K-member. Looks like the springs or A-arm have to come out to have any chance of getting in there...... I'm considering using a sawzall to cut enough to get my hand up in there

Ok what you do is take the single bolt out that is easy to get to, Then you just bend back the top bracket enough, to pull the old mount out and install the new one.

Its really actually pretty simple.

Does that answer the question? Its really simple to figure ou t if you have ever seen the mounts.

Interesting. If the other two bolts are loosened, but not removed, would that help at all? Maybe won't need to bend the upper clam shell as much? Sure has to be easier then removing the bolts completely.

aahhhh, I see. Will try that before taking extreme measures. To bend back into place, I assume a hammer or something would work ok.

I feel you on that one. When all the politeness and best Sunday-go-to-church patience comes to an end and it's time to "FIX THAT F'ER!" you often find the best time-saving solutions. That's one that's going in the back of my brain for some time in the future when I have to do mine again. Thanks for the tip.

Nope you don't even need to touch the other two bolts. The steel is pretty large gauge, so its easy to bend back with just your hands. I replace my motor mounts with polyurethane.

Woulda worked had the clamshell not been riveted. You were able to bend it open 'cause you'd already drilled em right? As the motor was in the way, I was unable to drill the rivets and had no option but to take the mount out....

To get 'er out, I decided to do some "weight reduction mods" involving a sawzall. (lengthened the existing hole in the k-member, where the A-arm bolts in) made the rest of the job a piece of cake, and since the stock member is so beefy, I'm not really worried about having weakened it.

Motor sits higher and header no longer hits the steering column!

Your right it will only work if you grind the rivet out first or have already done it. I ground mine off with a angle grinder and cutoff wheel. You should beable to do it with the two bolts still holding it down.

Doing this with engine in, or engine out?

Bottoms up!

Just put the bolts in from the bottom side, instead of the nuts/washers. It's much easier, with a swivel, and goop some grease on the socket to hold it, or magnetize the socket. What difference does it make whether bolt up or bolt down? I did mine this way, in like 10 minutes, after spending 2 hours fighting with the nuts/washers.

The hardest part is taking them off.

What i originally did was remove the two bolts holding the a-arm to the k-member. Its simple to get the nuts and washers on when you can fit you hand in there.

My solution only involves removing the single easy bolt.
