broken timing chain
Well i was coming home and had the cruise set at 65 and the car just shut off, tried to crank it back up but it wouldnt, checked the fuel pump and it was still workin fine, when i pulled the front of the motor down the timing chain fell out, i replaced that and now it wont start, ive been told that the 2.8 v6 from 89 is a non interference engine, but im also told that my valves are probably bent from it breaking, can anyone please give me any info on this
im also having problems with the key switch, it wont turn the car over or anything now, it was spinning the motor over fine while we were trying to reset the timing, after diconnecting the battery and reconnecting it the alarm went off and now the car wont spin or nuthin, the security light also stays on while the key is on, i checked the resistance the key and the wire out of the column match while the key is off, but as soon as turn it on it goes to 0
please guys i need some help with this

You did reset the cam and crank positions, right?
You should pull your valve covers and take out the pushrods and make sure all of them are straight and that you dont have any sticking valves
You'll know if you have a bent valve once you take the valve cover off.
To check the pushrods straightness roll them on something that you KNOW is flat, like a textbook or something. You'll see any imperfections then.
As for your car's alarm problem I really dont know, I'll leave that to someone who knows what they're talking about.

It is a non interferance engine but when the chain starts to slip and skip teeth it is possible to damage valves.
When you put the timing set on did you align it dot to dot or dot to top DTT? either way is how you set the timing marks if that wasent done it wont start. Check the grounds and the connection the the starter most likely somthing got fried from cranking it over.

UPDATE
Well heres the latest, we got the intake off and the pushrods look ok, the valves are another story, we tapped the tops of the valve springs with a hammer and 4 of them flex and 2 of them are like hitting rocks, the funny thing is that on is on the driver side and the other is on the passenger side, as far as the starting thing goes i bought a new keyswitch from the chevy house and had keys made cost a whoppin 90 bucks at my dads shop cost, i hope that will fix that problem after lookin at the new switch i think gm needs a swift kick in the *** for putting somthing that brittle on our cars, i think we should be able to take them to gm and have system taken off free of charge for theyre ignorance
