4 cylinder timing???

I know this is non third-gen but i need help.Im working on a friends Krustang,i mean mustang, and i want to adjust the timing, and i dont know how.Theres no distributor cause its a 4 cylinder and its got a coil pack with set up.So how do you set timing on a car with no distibutor? Also its a california edition 1993 LX,and its has a 4 cylinder but its got 4 plugs on each side also(8 plugs all together which this is the first car ive ever seen like this).

You don't.

The timing is established with a cam and crank sensor, both being non adjustable.

The ECM takes the readings from both and keeps the timing in spec.

Thanks a lot man, thats what i thought, but someone was trying to tell me thats not the case, allthough i thought it was. This persons car im trying to fix has this weird problem,in which you give it gas and the rpms barely go up,and they go up to a certain point and you can floor it while your driving and the car will top out at around 20 mph.I thought maybe it was the fuel filter so i changed that and it runs smoother cause it wasnt changed since 93,beleive that lol...but it didnt help the problem...any suggestions?

Disconnect the ex. before the cat and try it again...maybe a clogged cat.

Sounds to me like a tranmission prob.

I would check:
M.A.P.
Throttle Body:cables to the accelerater and
tranmission.
T.P.S.
Vacumme leaks
and exahust

also try pressing and depressing the accelreater when driving.Tell us what happends.

P.S. I don't know how to spell accelerater.

OK,i thought of maybe a transmission problem too,but i checked the tranny fluid and its perfectly fine.Ill step on the gas and the car will slowly get up to 20 mph or so and then stop and the RPMs just wont move.I can rev it when im sitting at idle and the RPMs go up but when in gear the car just wont move. When i go to brake and the car decelerates, its seems like its about to stall unless i give it a little gas.I got no clue what the firing order is and i got no clue if it could be the problem.Ford looked at the car and said,it was the MAF,Oxygen sensor, and the air filter causing the problems, and it would cost them over $500 to fix.So i put the parts in for $50 and the parts didnt help much at all.I also noticed where you test the computer there was a vacuum hose off and i reconected it and the cars running a little better. But still the same problem. So does this sound at all ignition related or do you guys think it might be more like another bad sensor???Im gona try to disconnect the Cat and see if it helps, but i really dont know cause the exhaust seems to be flowing fine when i put my hand over the exhaust.I couldnt find any more vacuum leaks either.Does any one know how to check and or test the map and tps on this car?And does anyone know where both of them are?

On my Throttle bod I have connections to the Trans. and the accelerator. Check the cables, one of them may be broke. When I removed the cable to the accelerator,I can't go above 35mph. I reconnected the cable to the Throttle body and problem solved. You may just want to check the Throttle body cables that are connected to the on the side. I don't about FORDS but check the IAC if you have one, that could explain the ideling prob. Check the gaskets in the throttle body for a leak.

You don't have any throttle response. not good for going on the freeway.

Don't test the TPS or MAP,If they haven't been replaced then go ahead and replace them.

I would check your ignition coils.Have they been replaced has well?

There is a way to adjust the cable if it has not been adjusted in a while. Goto Autozone and get a Hayes book for you car. That will tell you how and where the sensors are.

Ok so heres what happened,i gave the car a full tune up including fuel filter, and i out on the parts the dealership told this girl to put on her car, which was the oxygen filter and MAF sensor. The car still ran the same and they said they were just gona take it to a mechanic. So when they were on the highyway driving the car home, the girls sister was following her in her car,and she noticed this glowing under the car.So they pulled over and she said it was the entire exhaust glowing, and it even looked like the gas tank was starting to glow.Im guessing a clogged cat and the highway driving both cause this.So im guessing the CAT being clogged the whole time was the problem.Guess ill find out when the CATs taken off.
