Smog pump, and serpentine belt
Okay, I am removing my pump, I have a part number for a belt that will fit, Dayco 968K6. The problem I have is all the Autojunk, Preppy Boys, and Retarted Autoparts stores here need the vehicle info, engine, trans, tire size, color, tread depth, and how full the gas tank is. Does anyone know of a vehicle that uses this, or another belt that will fit? I called Autojunk yesterday, explained the situation about the part number, but he told me "No, we can't go backwards" I know its not their fault, the computer asks the questions. Anyway, any info would help tremendously.
Thanks,

I don't get it... you walk up to the counter, say "Please pull me this part number", hand them a piece of paper with the number; they walk back to the pegboard, grab it off the hook, & hand it to you;, you take it to the register, they scan it & take your money... what other info is there? If those people are too stupid to just give you what you want and take your money, go to a real parts store like a Parts Plus or NAPA or Car Quest or some other one, don't fool around with a bunch of idiots if they aren't interested in increasing their paycheck by taking your money.

Damn your smart!!! I order most parts from companies such as Jegs, or Summit. I almost forgot NAPA, and CarQuest. THe others are of course the big chain stores, so we have more of those. Thanks for reminding me of the little guys.

Ya know what kills me?
I tried to get a job at one of those autopart giants. Did not get it because I didn't have 3 years autoparts experience.
So now I'm in my own personal college training.
Everyday I ask.....
What year is the car?
What Make is the car?
What Model is the car?
How many cylinders?
A/C or No A/C?
I figure I've only got two more years of saying that and I'll be management material!!
I've been doing my own repairs and repairs for others for the past 15 years and they say I don't have experience.
Now go figure that one out.

I used to work at one of those chains, I got the job at 17 with zero experience and I was the best employee there. I quit recently because I hate customer service jobs, the general public is mostly as5holes. When I need something I just walk in and grab it and walk to the register, I know enough not to trust those guys with anything. Most of them don't know jack and just spit out anything to get you out of their store without making them look stupid.

OK, go with Gates part number K060975. Or tell the guys at the parts store to get off their lazy a** and cross reference the Dayco part number.
Actually, the Dayco number will cross to a K060968, if there's such thing. Little tip here: the last 6 in 968K6 stands for the number of grooves in the serp belt. This crosses to the first 6 in the Gates number. The length is 968 in the Dayco, and 975 in the Gates. That means 96.8 or 97.5 inches. That's what one year experience at an auto parts store taught me. I suppose stuff like that is what makes experience valuable to the parts stores when hiring. Of course I was hired with no experience, 20 years old, and a female, too. Three strikes against me. My boss told me later that the only reason he gave me a chance was because I did better than anyone he'd ever seen on the little automotive-knowledge pretest they give out at the interview.

I tried to get a job at Autozone and they wouldn't hire me because I refused to use Plastigage. I had to ***** to tell them that the only right way to measure clearance was with instruments designed for that. What the hell was I thinking?
