Is it OK to use something like dish soap in small amounts to lube the wire so it can slide into the distributor boot? Assembling accel wires...

doh
I take it that could be a reason a car wouldnt start then? I did it on a different car (that wont start now)
, and i was gonna do everything the same step by step on my tuneup to see where i went wrong... Could i unassemble the plug wires and wipe it off/redo it with dielectric grease?

First double check the wire placements. Make sure the firing order is the same (1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 on a SBC) and that you didn't get off a position on the cap.
Did you do them one wire at a time, or pull all the wires at once?
Have the cap off the distributor for any reason? Or the distributor out?

Soap probably wouldn't keep it from running, right away; but it's corrosive (to the wire itself and the connector), and it attracts moisture. Definitely not what you want around plug wires.
I think you can get a little packet of the right stuff for like 99¢ at AutoZone.

I did it one at a time, i tihnk the battery may be low and need a jump to give a strong enough spark. All i did was plugs/wires... This engine does not have an external coil, its a "goodwrech 350" it says on the side, gotta love workin on crate engines in other peoples cars
. But I should be able to dissasemble the wire, wash all the soap off dry it thouroghly and then put some of the right grease ona nd it should work peachy, correcT?
