Fire and Lack of Power
Fire and Lack of Power
I have just put in a rebuilt 305 TPI back in my 89 formula. I have a 5 speed with a centerforce dual friction pressure plate and a centerforce II clutch disk. I also have a mild cam and hedman LT headers on. My question is, the first time I drove it out of the garage, I went down the street and couldn't get the motor over 3k, but sitting at idle, I could take it way past that. Is that just because of the new clutch, or is it because the rings haven't seated in the block yet. I have about an hour of run time, and about 5 minutes of actual driving. Next problem is my exhaust temp. I have toasted 2 slave cylinders now. They keep burning up. I wrapped the second one with a heat blanket, but It still caught on fire. Could it be that there was still a little brake fluid on the blanket from bleeding it? How flammible is brake fluid? Can anyone help?

Brake fluid is highly flammable.
However, you have some other problem... I'd suspect your timing is greatly retarded. That one thing can cause all the symptoms you describe.
