350 buildup

I have several questions that I hope you can help with. First I have a 350 bored .030 4 bolt main I have a set of s/r torquer heads 76cc 202/1.6 I want to be able to get as much out of this engine as possible on pump gas The pistons I have are rated at 12.2/1 on 64cc heads I figure this to be around 10.5 on 76 cc heads I still think to high for pump gas should these be changed for flat tops to keep comp. around 9.3?
I have three cams one is a lunati 230/230 dur. .480/.480 lift at.050 one is a comp cam 270h 224/224 dur. .470/.470 lift at.050 the other is a summit 244/254 dur..510/.533lift at.050 Which cam would best fit my needs.
Im useing a weiand stealth intake and edelbrock 600carb I also have a holley 600.
I have a b&m 3000 stall converter a th350 tranny and 3.73 rear

IIRC those heads are aluminum; 10½:1 should therefore be OK, with enough cam.

IMHO the best cam to match those heads is not on the list; but of those 3, the Summit one would be the best, as long as the valve springs on the heads are adequate. Also, with that much stall, you don't need alot of real low end; so you can go a little wilder with the cam than you would be limited to if the converter was stock.

Which Stealth is it (part #)? That's a product line not a specific part.

600 CFM is too small. 750 CFM is more nearly the right size for a 350 with the kind of flow that those heads will give you. The Holley is a far superior carb to the Carter if you're determined to use one of those.

Hmmmm... then you do need to get the CR down a little. About 10:1 should be safe, I don't think you need to take it all the way to 9.3. If the short block isn't built yet you might want to see if you can get somebody to knock some material off the domes, and use a FelPro 1044 head gasket which is about.050" thick rather than .040".

That's one of the dual plane intakes in that series isn't it? If so a 600 carb is definitely too small, since the small plenum causes the flow through the carb to appear in "peaks" much higher than the steady-state flow that the RPM-VE-CFM formula would predict, rather than the smooth constant flow that the formula assumes.

What you say about the carb could this cause it to run lean or rich?

It has no particular thing that it will necessarily do to the mixture. What it does is prevent flow from occurring. It will cause you to waste all the money you are spending to open up restrictions in the induction system, by placing a bottleneck there.

So I guess it could be said to make your wallet run lean while keeping your car slow.
