heres my problem. i know my timing marks on the timing chain are wright but i cant get the rotor phased properly. to get the car to run i had to move all my spark plug wires and i cant get the timing correct

not sure what you did to get where you're at but i tihnk the best thing is to start over. makes sure the marks on the timing gears are right even if you know they are. bring #1 up to TDC with both valves closed then set the rotor to point at the #1 post of the distributor cap. make sure all the wires are ran to the correct plugs. it should start and run there or with a little moving of the distributor. by any chance do you have it 180* out?
