temperature gauge
I actually have 2 questions-
1) My temp. gauge needle seems to be maybe stuck. I've read in other posts that it can get stock & to just pop off the plastic and unstick it. How do I take the plastic off the gauges?
2) Before consulting this website & finding out that my gauge may just be stuck, I had been in a hunt for a new gauge or gauge cluster which is near impossible around here. A auto salvage guy did tell me that my 84 Z28 gauge cluster is compatible with a 85 Sunbird. Seems like quite an unlikely match but weider things have happened. Has anybody heard of this? How can I verify this (I did check with the dealer & other auto salvages to get htem to check to see if it was a cross over part, but was told that that part did not have a cross over number)
Help me please

1) There are a lot of tiny torx screws in the dash. Remove them and then the ones holding the clear plastic in. The needle tends to get stuck on the sheet metal so you can either cut it or bend it until it no longer sticks. I did both.
2) I don't know. But I do know that guage clusters aren't exactly rare, so just look around and you will find one. A lot of members check local junkyards so if you put up an ad you can probably get someone to get you one.

Once the torx are out then the cluster lense bolts will be exposed. They are small like 6 or 7 mm. Soon as you have the lens off then you have access to the gauge. Make sure your hands are clean or you will be looking at finger prints behind the lens for years. Delicate place too so be carefull not to bend any needles ect.
I have 3 or 4 of them from 82 - 86 I think. Some have slightly diferent fonts/makrings from year to year so if you have to replace the gauge it's self, make sure you get the same style if you want it to match the rest of your cluster.
