Now that I need a new one, I realized this is one of those things you never think about.

Can I buy a generic one at pep boys for a chevy 350 or do I need to go to GM and get one specific to a thirdgen camaro or L98?

You can get them at the speed shop that are specific to these bodies; they are bent specifically to clear the exhaust and all that. I got mine for about $12 at my local speed shop. Summit and Jeg's carry them too.
