Hi - I went on autozone.com and typed in my VIN number, and glanced through the recall notices. Specifically, I have the problem with the seat-belt where it doesn't retract. The letter says to bring an identification card into the dealer to get the work performed. Unfortunately, the car has been sold/given about 4 or 5 times since the original owner, and I seriously doubt Chevy even knows I exist.

Should I take it into a dealership anyway? Will I have to reference the specific recall notice, or can I just tell them the problem and they'll fix it?

 

Call a dealer, give them the vin number and the info on the recall. They can punch it in and see if the recall has been fixed on your car. If it hasn't been fixed yet per the VIN number, they should fix it.
