got gas, now car runs like crap

OK...

Car was running fine. Got gas and drove home. The next day, I noticed slight hesitation when I gunned it. I thought I was imagining things. Started to test... (gunned it and payed attention). Car bogged when I gave it gas. Idled fine, accelerated OK if done "nicely", but if I gave it more than 1/2 throttle, it bogged. Gotten progressively worse. Starts up fine, but backfires until choke opens up. Runs better as it gets warmer, but not much.

The fuel pump is ~3yrs old. Plugs ~1yr, as with the wires.

Also, I seem to be getting really "good" gas mileage... lol. No kidding though. In the amount of time that I have been driving since I got gas, I normally got ~1/2 tank left. Right now I got ~3/4... lol. I added two cans of fuel treatment (dry gas and carb cleaner) w/no improvement.

I think it might be the fuel filter, or a bad tank of gas. Any suggestions?? TY btw, it was high test gas.

lets see
your getting good gas mileage
your car stumbles under acceleration

sounds like your running lean to me

fuel filter do you know the last time it was changed? a lotof ppl don't worry about them on efi cars. fuel pump might have some sort of issue as well even though it is fairly new as I have seen some parts not work out of the box.

slightly plugged injector maybe

first thing first get a fuel pressure gauge and see what fuel pressure your running

Do you get gas at this station all the time could just be poor quality gas.

is it a q-jet carb?replace the fuel filter,it's located in the front of the carb after the fuel inlet, check the usual tune up things(cap, rotor, plugs, wires).
if the plugs show the car is running lean, try adjusting the idle mixture screws to a richer position and see if it runs better.
unless its a comp.controlled carb.if this is the case i would do a search in the carb.forums,i don't know if this can be done on them without bad side fx

I know that for awhile some places in NY had oxygenated gasonline. I dunno if that is still around, but perhaps that could be the problem.

Maybe bad gas? Maybe timing? Get some more gas in there and see what happens. (same pump offer diesel?)

I hope you are using 'high test' gas out of necessity rather than for some vague unquantified or disproven reason.

Wouldn't you know,

After ~11 days of this, I took it to get inspected. The mechanic took it for a test drive, and said that for the first few minutes it acted like I said. Then, all of a sudden, the car surged with the peddle down and acted fine. I drove a quick loop myself, and it acted fine.
I guess whatever it was worked itself free and pushed through.
Thanks for all of your replies
I had the fuel filter replaced anyway... just in case.

maybe the car got tired of you not fixing it and decided to fix itself.

sounds like bad fuel. We had the samething happen to some cars where I used to work and low and behold they all got gas at bp station. We took some of the gas out and tested the alcohol content and there was too much in it and had a lot of water.

Same gas is still in it. Maybe all the cleaners finally worked? $10 well worth it then

I've gotten bad gas before, ~3yrs ago. Car stalled several times on the way home, and gave off a wierd sulfur smell.
I also got water in the carb before. When I first got it, I washed it, and shot water down the hood scoop .
I'm just glad this passed.
