sparratic oil pressure reading.

ok when i first start my car is cold still and driving around its a good 55ish psi . after its warmed up it still stays around 35psi. but i noticed the other day when i floored it a few times that the psi dropped to 0 a few times then after i let off it slowly crawled back up to where its supposed to be. is this a glitch with the stock gauge or should i be cautious of something going on?

prolly the stock sender unit going out

but make sure first and get a real mechanical gauge in there just to double check.

usually the sender is near the oil filter from my experience on the thirdgen though might be a little different

i replaced the sender like 8 months ago when i changed my spark plugs for the first time and i broke the original. it is an autozone sending unit so its prolly broke lol but ill get it checked.

My wife's s10 blazer used to do this. Meant is was 2 quarts low on oil. I agree with rx7speed about checking this with a mechanical gauge. If the oil level is ok and it does it with a mechanical gauge, the pickup might have come off the pump.

Yes, sucking air instead of pumping oil through the engine is bad. If you'd like I can send pictures of what was left of my cam and lifters after the screen broke off the pickup tube on my car.

Ahhh, don't you just love showing symptoms of a spun bearing?

A quart low shouldn't cause a problem.

Could be all the laughig gas you've run through it

BTW, the rears apart awaiting new stuff...should have picked up that tranny while I was there, my nephew needs a core fotr a rebuild.

Oh well...
