wierd problems/noises with engine
Just in the past week my car developed a miss. The last couple of days I've been trying to find the problem but can't seem to be able to figure it out. The spark plug wires and spark plugs were looked and and they seem fine. The spark plugs have a light tannish color to them. I looked under the hood at night to see if there was any arcing off the spark plug wires and didn't see anything. There is also a ticking sound that goes along with the miss on the left side of the engine. I looked at the rocker arms on that side to see if any were loose and they were all tight. Then just yesterday that when I rev the engine hard it wants to spit a little bit of gas out the carb everytime it misses. One idea I had was maybe the cat was almost clogged because just recently I noticed that the small exhaust leak I had in front of the cat got louder and the exhuast is just a little bit more muffled. Would this cause enough back- pressure to cause these probs?? Any ideas would great help.
Anybody????

If it spits gas out the carb, that's due to a reversion from the miss. A high pressure pulse travels back up from the cylinder out the engine. I'd adjust all of the lifters while the engine was running. How many miles on ign system? You might want to look into new wires, plugs, cap and rotor. There are only two things that could be going wrong. 1. It's not getting spark 2. It's not getting good compression. If you say it's ticking and all the rockers are tight, then one of the lifters is probably going flat and needs to be replaced. That's my 5000 mile away diagnostic. Hope it helps.
