What do you guys think of this combo?

I want to rebuild the LG4 in my 83 T/A this winter. I was looking at the Vortec heads. How good are these? Will they wake the old 305 good enough to be worth putting them on? I also want to stick in a cam and do the complete exhaust. Headers all the way back. My goal with the car is mid-14's with all the smog equipment and a/c and everything still there. I want to keep it 305 because I think it would be more unique than a 350 or 383. That, and I already have the 305 to start with But am I on the right track with this combo here?? BTW, it does have to go through emissions.

the vortecs are good heads but they are 350 heads, the combustion chambers are too big for the 305 and you will have crappy compression...some company makes heads specificaly for a 305 (i forget who) but slap them on w/ a comp extreme energy cam and a performer manifold (the only Edelbrock one that offers EGR i think, you might want to port it a little...) and you should run nicely w/ a 305

You may want to look into the World Torquer 305 heads. Ive heard MANY good things about them. They cost around 750 a pair (estimate). I would say with the heads and cam maybe intake should put you where you want to be.
