Timing problem
Timing problem
Ok, I just got my engine running and I'm trying to set the timing.
I start the engine, let it warm up. In the mean time the timing is about 4 degrees ATDC?
I turn off the engine, disconnect the EST, start it up, and the timing is still @ 4 degrees ATCD. I move the distributor around and its rock steady there.
I replaced the ignition module, cap, and rotor tonight BTW
Then as I was playing around with stuff, I jumped the ALDL while it was running, and the timing advances to 8-10 degrees BTDC with the EST plugged in and idles A LOT better. This leads me to believe that the ignition module is not the problem
I'm also setting off codes 42 & 43.
Any help here?
BTW this is on a 87 5.7L TPI.....stock except for headers and intake porting if that matters.

I figured it out
There isn't an Electronic spark control module even hooked up. There wasn't one hooked up in the S10 blazer that I got the engine out of. I really don't like trying to figure out other's mistakes on my own....waste a bunch of time.
