Stalling (14 degree timing advance?)

I've got a car thats got an issue with stalling now and then. (and then not wanting to start up at some points). When it does stall, the electronics stay on and will continue to work after it refuses to start sometimes. So the battery and alternator are good.

My first thought was that it is because I have a timing advance of 14 degrees. Is this too much, and enough to cause the car to stall?

Today I stalled out in a busy circle, and for anyone who lives in New Jersey, you can feel for me on how scared I was. I really want to get this issue resolved, not only because its embarassing, its dangerous.

If its not the timing, then what else could cause it to stall?

what's your total timing? i doubt it really matters unless your problem developed right after you set the base to 14. did you disconnect the EST when you set the timing? is it a hot failure? i'd check the control module.

My first guess would be a bad module in the distributor, but hard to diagnose this. Autozone can test these, do it several times to heat it up. Be careful when they hand it back, those guys like to see blisters around here.
