replaced heater core. Now have overheating problems!!

i replaced my heater core and now my car gets really hot like over 220. when i am stop for a light it gets to like 240. the fan is on and everything. I heard that if you have an air bubble in the system from when i put the heater core in and then the air is stuck in there. because the coolant went into the heater core and pushed the air out and now it just going around. has anyone everyheard of this? anyone have any ideas?

Its possible that reversed hoses going into the core could screw things up, but I doubt it. Just bypass the heater core to test your theory. Make sure you have enough liquids in your radiator and check for other leaks first.

First off i had the heater core bypassed and the car ran like normal temp. replaced the core on sat. the car battery died so i jumped it and let it run for like 20 mintues and it stayed around 220 usually when it sits is when it gets real hot. anyway go driving yesterday and it will run cool in 4ht gear. but when at a light or stop for a brief second it gets way over 220. also when i have the heat on the temp will stay down.
any ideas???

That's a restricted radiator...

The heater core "bypasses" the radiator. That is, it is in parallel with the rad. The hot coolant coming out of the top of the motor has a choice; it can either go to the heater core, or it can go to the radiator; it will of course go whichever way is the path of least resistance. With no heater core, it was all forced to go through the rad, but now apparently the heater core is so much more free-flowing that a significant portion of the fluid goes that way, doesn't get cooled, and returns to the block intake still hot.

Sounds like you need a new radiator, or at least some service to the one you have.

so how would i go about fixing this without buying a new radiator? my car worked fine before with the old radiatior. it really didn't get that hot. with the new one my car gets really hot.
