cant it get screwed up from heat and moisture under the hood?..i dont trust the sealent on anything cause nothing created to seal holds forever.

does anyone think it would be better to mount on the firewall inside the car or in the center console or somewhere inside???

when i put one in my old mopar i put it in the glove compartment.

My friend puts one in a 78 trans am. He tried to hide it by putting it under the glove box assembly. Works good, but makes a real anoying buzzing sound. It is kinda loud too. I have seen a lot of them mounted under the hood, and as long as you don't put it in what you know is harms way I don't think there will be a problem.

I've had mine behind the drivers side strut tower for over a year with no problems. I eventually want to install it in the car . Make sure it is laying down flat like it's supposed to. This is what an MSD tech told me.

You are right.
I mount my electronics under the dash on the passenger side of both my cars. Have been running one MSD for 10 years and the other for 6 years and never a problem.

I wouldn't put that thing too close to the computer though. It might emit EMI/RMI and daze&confuze it. I bolted mine (Holly Anhillator) right to the console next to the e-brake. It buzzes but with solid motor mounts and loud exhaust and spherical mounted rear axle sending whine right through the floor i really don't care.

Good point about the computer... I forgot.

My camaro is a "computer free" zone.

I have mine on my passenger front strut tower, where my coolant bottle used to be. (I replaced the bottle with a smaller one). Seems fine to me so far!

I wouldn't be worried about rain. Go out on a day it's pouring, then pull in the garage. 95% under the hood will be dry (and I have an open turbo hoo!). I wouldn't be worried about rain and moisture. The only thing I would worry about is blowing a coolant hose. Those usually do a good job of soaking everything heavily with a very hot stream of water/antifreeze.

I put mine underneath the charcoal canister. I haven't had any problems with it there. If you do mount an ignition box in the car you have to make sure it has adequate ventilation to prevent overheating.

The MSD instruction booklet on page 4 says you can mount it any way but upside down.

Why? I guess the simple response would be why not. MSD builds the circuitry of their boxes assuming underhood conditions (and offroad too), it then additionally coats the boards. Grab one and inspect it carefully and you will note it is not a hermetic seal (not even close!). It was designed that way so the box could 'breath'. Pretty good box.

Mounting it near a computer should not be a problem the boxes are analog and I have yet to see EFI/RFI caused by one.

MSD really doesn't care which way you mount it so long as it is not upside down. When you mount it like that condensation and any water that gets in has a very difficult time escaping.
