question about oiling system
first off, im sorry that this isnt thirdgen related, but it is for a good cause. My grandfather has a 67 cadilac with a 65 cadilac motor(427) in it. I have the owners manual for the 67 that talks about the oiling system for the 67, but i need to know how the valve train gets its oil on the 65. It appears that it should have hollowed pushrods to get the oil up there, but the pushrods that came out of the engine are solid. Also, the valve train had very poor oil coming to it.
Can someone please help me out with information on how the oil is supposed to get to the valve train on a 65 427 for a cadilac? Thank alot, and sorry this isnt thirdgen related, but it is very imprtant to me. I cant find this info anywhere. Atleast its tech
------------------
*1989 RS
*Red, Daytona Turbo fiberglass hood, chrome 16x8 IROC wheels
*355 CID
*TPI ported plenum, SLP siamesed runners, Edelbrock high flow intake
*Edelbrock TES Headers (getting SLP 1 3/4 this summer)
*Richmond 3.73, Auburn Posi
*Modded 700-R4, 2800 stall converter
*NO recent time slips.

CK,
You're lucky that there are a few "old farts" here.
The '65 Cad V-8 should actually have 429 cubes, not 427. It should also have shaft-mounted rockers, IIRC. With many OEM shaft rockers, the oil is delivered through passages drilled in the head and throught the tubular rocker shaft (like a lot of the old Chryslers).
The design may have used the ported cam journal design to meter oil to each rocker shaft in an alternating fashion depending upon the cam rotation position. I'm not sure when that was abandoned, but it may have been used in '65.
BTW - That engine was rated at 380HP in factory trim.

Don't feel bad - I've been mixed up for over forty years...
And besides, about two of those cubes don't count, anyway, since the heads really should be shaved a bit to make smaller chambers. The static compression on that engine is only about 9.2:1.
