leaking oil at upper rear of engine

my 87 gta 5.7l tpi is leaking oil at upper rear of engine. I suspect the oil pressure switch/sensor near the distributor. i can't see anything in that area because of all the wiring and stuff between the engine and firewall. does anyone know which side of the distributor it is located on?? will i have to pull the distributor to get to it?? will i have to pull the tpi assembly to get to it?? thanks, steve

My 5.7 is carbed, but i think yours should be the same as mine as far as the oilpressure sensor is concerned. It's located at the right of the distributor if your standing at the front of the car looking at it.It's at the very back of the block.I'd also suspect the rear of the intake might be leaking, but like i said,i'm not too familiar with the tpi setups..

i found my oil leak. replacing the pressure sensor right of the distributor cured the leak. i am thankful that the intake manifold was not the cause.

i had looked for a sensor near the distributor before posting the first time. i was looking for something small way down on the top of the block. i would have been snakebit real bad. the pressure sensor is monster sized! a picture can be seen at:

fyi per chiltons, and now personal experience:
1987 to 1989 5.0/5.7 tpi's have a pressure sensor for the gauge next to distributor, and a pressure switch for fuel pump above the oil filter

1990 to 1992 5.0/5.7 tpi's have a single combined sensor/switch located above the oil filter.
