My blower motor for my air conditioner doesn't work in my 1988 IROC. I checked the fuse panel and all the fuses are fine. When I start the engine and turn on the A/C, the A/C compressor clutch engages but no air comes through the vents due to a dead fan. The connections on the blower motor are conected and no wiring harnesses appear damaged.

I checked out both Chilton's and Haynes shop manuals and looked at the electrical wiring schematics. The Chilton's shop manual indicates that there is a blower motor relay. Where is this relay? I can't seem to find it. I do know where the fan, fuel pump, and MAF burn off relays are.

What else could be the cause of my blower motor not working?

 

Did you check to see if the motor itself works?

 

The blower motor relay is mounted on a bracket that is attached to the evaporator housing. Follow the big purple wire from teh blower motor, there's less than 12" of wire from tha relay to the motor.

The relay rarely goes bad in such a way as to disable the motor totally; usually they take out the high speed when they fail. I'd recommend checking the wiring, and if it's all hooked up and not damaged, the motor.

Thanks for the advice. The blower motor is working fine again. I guess my IROC didn't feel like being tested so it started working fine again.

 

Yeah, that sounds a lot like a blower motor on its way out. It'll work sporadically, then die.
