383 and 305 heads?
alot of friends tell me just to do the bore and 400 crank to ge the 383 but i have 305 heads, its this going to hurt? or not worth the bore and just keep building the 350?i don't have the engine in yet just building it up, trying to keep the cost down but i want the most potential i can get out of the 350.

305 heads are worthless on anything but a 305....not saying they won't work, just pointless. Ever breath through a straw?

This topic is covered a lot, usually 305 heads are great on a 350, but a 383 you're spending a fair bit more cash on the rotating assembly already, so why cheap out on the heads, since they're the ones that make the power? You could do it, sitting bull and F-bird 88 will have the best advice.
You can always do it, then swap out the heads later when $ allows. Or port/polish them and leave them, but i'm not too sure if good ported 416s for example could feed a hungry 383.... F-bird88 would know for sure.

Infact they are better then 95% of 350 heads. But you are going to run into compression problems if you use them on a 383. That is unless you find the biggest dished piston you can and really open up the combustion chambers.

You'd get more power out of spending the money on a set of aftermarket high perf heads, that you plan on spending on making a 350 into a 383 ( crank block mods, pistons, balancing)
Spend the $$$ on new heads and build a 350 with good heads.

Hey Katman, do you copy and paste that exact same post in every thread? It's like a revolving for sale ad. Everywhere you look there it is, exact, word after repeatative word. Why don't you save your ad for the classifieds where they belong.

I just got to stand up for the little guy. Just because they came on the lowly 305 doesn't mean they are worthless, bad, or don't have potential.
I probably wouldn't use it on anything other than a 305 either. But if i were doing a bottom basement budget 350 build i wouldn't hesitate to use them.
Just so you know i used to have 416's on my 305, but now i have the aluminum LT1 heads on there.

I have had 305 heads (even ported) on my 383. Powerband dropped off at 3500 RPMs and above. It was a torque monster and blew up my trans a couple times though (due to the high velocities at lower RPMs plus a stroker crank making hella torque).
