Cold Starting after doing ram-air intake

I guess the subject line doesn't describe very well what I'm asking. I am building a cold air/ram air intake today, the one where you move the signal lights. Anyway, I wasn't planning on reinstalling the part that throws heat from the exhaust manifold up to the snorkel. I don't know what it's called, but it's the piece with the flapper and the metallic looking hose. Has anyone done this? I figure you guys with open elements don't have it so it must not be too big a problem. I thought I might just be a bit worse off by drawing air from outside instead of the engine bay. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It probably should warm up slower without the little tube (don't know what it's called either). All I know is that I once had a 3/4 inch hole in the tube and when I replaced it it seemed to warm up alot faster.
