fuel injector cleaner
Does this stuff actually help at all? I am talking about the stuff in the bottle that you can buy at the local parts store. I was just buyin oil and a filter and saw some at the store. I was thinking about picking up a can, but i didnt know if it would be worth the money. Also, if it is worth the money who has the best stuff?
thanks

don't do it!!! if your valve seals are going bad, this will surely bid their demise. best thing to do is pop them out, take em to a machine shop, cleaned, flow and pressure tested. cheap, safe, and effective.

I used that stuff when I 1st bought my car. IT MADE A HUGE Difference! My injectors must have been a little clogged or something.
Helped alot!

I use Gumout X-tra Fuel injector cleaner, every few months. I think it works the best. I have had a few cars that weren't running that good, and I used this stuff, and I swear it ran better. I have never had any problems using it. But this is just my opinion.
take care

Regane by Gumout, AutoZone now carrys it # 5.99 each. It also cleans the piston tops as well. Maybe too good of a cleaner. That gunk has to go SOMEWHERE.

I used Techron COncentrate ($5.99 for 12 oz) which improved performance a little, I think, in my TPI GTA. I used it in my carbed Caprice and it made a bigger difference, and even brought a low compression cylinder back up to normal. The valve must have been pretty carboned up. BTW, I had bad valve seals before I used the Techrn in my GTA, and I did not notice them getting worse, since it smokes the same now as before, on startup.

My opinion? There is no way fuel or injector cleaner can ever reach the stem seals...or you got major problems
CK,
The cleaners that are pumped and recirculated through the rails are generally better than the fuel additives. The additives are really only good as a maintenance item, and seldom do a good job at really cleaning the injectors.
I know I've said it more than once, and you already know the best method, but I've also said that for the cost of some of these cleaners and the ease of use (compared to a tear-down of the induction system) it's at least worth a try. If it works well enough to get you on your way, it's worth the effort. If not, you're really not out anything but a few bucks and some time.
Go for it. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones. Of course, none of this has any effect on how the injectors flows are balanced, and nothing beats pulling the screens and caps for a thorough flush and cleaning.

I have used some of the in-tank cleaners before, and I did notice a difference. I had spent some time carefully observing the BLM values stored in the computer prior to adding the cleaner, then did another study after the cleaner had been put through the tank (couple of tanks of gas). I did notice a change in the BLM values which would tend to indicate that the cleaner did do something to improve fuel flow and/or atomization.
For the time and cost involved in the procedure, it's certainly worth a try.
