tapping after oil change

After I did my oil change I started up the car and i heared a little tapping/knocking noise. I drove it around the block, and it went away. Do u think that is a serious problem or not what could that be do to.

Thanx

Is it tapping or knocking? A tapping noise could be lifters,if your oil pressure is good its probably not that big of deal. If it knocks for a bit right after you start it its probably bearings. If its bearings I wouldnt run it hard or you could finish it. Theres several early 90s trucks and vans I service all the time that have bearing knock on startup. They just keep chuggin along. However they're all owned by older people or seem to take it easy on em.

A certain amount of tapping after an oil change is normal as the oil filter will fill before the oil circulates thru the rest of the engine. It should only take a few seconds for the tapping to stop though. It's best if you fill your new filter with oil before installing it. You shouldn't drive when it's tapping like that as the increased load is hard on an inadequately lubricated engine. It's hard to say if the tapping was a sign of wear or if there was any permanent damage done, there are too many variables. If it was coming from the lifters, it probably doesn't matter. If it was coming from the crank/rods, it could mean impending doom. How is your oil pressure?

Keep your fingers crossed.

Exactly what I was going to say. I worked at an oil change shop years back. Just about every car that came through there knocked for a couple seconds until the oil filter filled and the engine maintained oil pressure again. As said above -fill the oil filter before putting it back on and no more knock.
