the casting is 858174 Im 99% sure its a 327 its sitting in an 74 GMC so its not the original engine. The heads are off/gone and its got 4vr flattops. Theres very little ridge so its a heck of alot better than the 327 ive been sitting on. any info on this engine would be great because I cant find squat

85 Camaro, 355/400 "drag car" in moth ***** 13.1@ 101mph on its last season run.
Plans: Possibly add N20 for next season.
82 Firebird, 305/350 currently moth balled.
Current plans: Rebuild 305 with flat tops instead of the dished "cups" for pistons or slightly built 327 with the 58cc heads from the LG4, Upgrade the 2:73 to 3:73 or 3:42 and replace the turbo 350 with 700r4.

Well, casting # 3858174 is in fact a 64-67 327. Which means it will be a small journal, 2 bolt main. It should also have a steel crank. So if you either get a set of after market rods, or at least some ARP rod bolts(due to the small 11/32 rod bolts) you should have a pretty decent engine. To check for sure if it is a 327, (if you haven't found a 3 in front of the 858174) since you have the heads off anyway, measure the bore and should be 4.00" and then turn the engine over until one of the pistons is at it's lowest point, then measure that, and it should be 3.25"

Yea thats funkey, that is the entire casting number no "3" just "858174". the engine is 50$ so as long as its a 327 and not a 307 I'll be happy .

Thanks for the information!!!
