Every time i start my car i get a nice big cloud of smoke. But after the initial cloud it does not smoke at all. Whats up with that? Also my oil pressure sucks. At idle im only getting 15psi and it rarely goes above 30psi when i am driving. This is all based on my in dash oil pressure gauge so i dont know if it is completly accurate. Sometimes my oil pressure gauge stays in one place and does not move for a while, then out of the blue it will start working again. Does anyone know what is up with that and if i can fix it?

Sounds like valve seals causing the start up smoke.

Could this cause you to lose power?

 

might also wanna try replacing ur oil pressure sending unit just to make sure.

Is that oil pressure sending unit a dealer only part or can you find it somewhere else?

Valve stem seals. I dont notice any power loss... mine leak too.

Have you checked your oil level?? It might be a little low. If its fine you may want to buy a new oil pressure sending unit. There about 15 buck at the Advance Auto. The unit screws in and is located near the distrib. Its bell shaped and has one wire attached to it. I think you'll need a special socket to remove it.

i check my oil level constantly. As a matter of fact i just changed my oil the other day and right after i did my car would not stop smoking for about 15 minutes. The smoke was coming heavily out of the tail pipes and there was even a little smoke coming from the engine. It was coming from the right side but i couldnt tell where. Then i took my car for a spin around the block and it smoked like crazy for a few minutes then it stopped and it has not smoked at all since, except when i start it. It was really weird.
