need a cam
ok i need a cam for a 87 305 tpi whats the biggest i could run without changing springs i dont want to spend alot on this motor so what could i get. and if i cant get anything bigger than stock were could i find a new stock cam at. thanks.

To be honest with you, I'd change the springs and keep the same cam before I'd change the cam and keep the stock springs.
A Comp or Crane computer cam with less than .480 lift would be okay with new springs. Also heard of guys putting LT1 take-out cams in TPI engines.

its not beacuse i want a new cam its beacuse this one looks preaty bad. I seen an add on ebay a guy was selling a 89 350 cam would this be better than this one.

no not yet you really dont think i would need a new one the guy on ebay is selling his for 10 bucks and looks brand new you think that would be worth it he said it came out of a 89 350 camaro

If you're used to flat tappet cams, the appearance of a used roller can be alarming. I don't see anything wrong with the one in your picture, if that's the one you doesn't think looks good. Just normal contact pattern; as long as there aren't any deep grooves in it, it's okay. But, $10 for an honest to goodness '89 350 Camaro cam in good condition shouldn't break any economic rules.
