an impact wrench makes the job easy. you can also hold the pulley or belt to try to stop if from turnning. if that doesn't work you may have to stop the flywheel/flexplate from turnning.

Just put the car on ramps, leave the spark plugs in, and grab that sucker with one hand while you remove the bolt easily with a 1/2" breaker bar in the other. It also helps immensely to leave the belt on while you do it. The hard part is holding the pulley while you torque the crank bolt back to spec . Trust me, this is an easy job, I just did it last month. Focus your bowtie power.

Try putting a wrench on one of the small outer bolts and hold onto that while you back out the center bolt. Worked for me, but I would imagine it's possible to break off the smaller bolt if the center one is REALLY tight.

the 1/2in breaker bar did wonders! got it all off this evening. i never even had to hold the pulley. so tomorrow i will try out this balancer installation tool and put it all back together and hope it works. the balancer was in bad shape it had separated and the outer part was rubbing on the timing chain cover. need to get this running again while i fix the vette. thanks for the help!
