5.5 Qts of oil right??

check my sig for my engine. Im supposed to put in 5.5 qts of oil at a oil\filter change correct? then why is it above the full mark? is it because there might still of been some oil left in the engine that didn't drain? how far above the full mark should i worry about it getting to the crank and foaming up?

I can't even get 5 quarts in my 305 TPI. Some dumbass that calls himself a mechanic tried to jack up the car under the oil pan. This travesty happened to the original female owner of my car. I can see the four circular marks from the jack on the underside of the oil pan. Lost some capacity because of it.

It's five quarts. Where are you getting 5.5? No wonder it reads too high .

It depends on the oil filter you use... if you use the PF25 (the short one) it will hold about 5 usually, if you use the taller PF35 it will hold more than 5.

I'll be damned! Just use the long filter like RB said, or use 5 quarts with the short filter. That should cure your problem.

Mine reads at the full mark with 5.5 quarts and a PF25 filter. I think it's because of the factory oil cooler. My 86' LG4 was full with 5 quarts, but it didn't have the oil cooler.

I've got the LONG filter and use over 6 quarts on a oil change.

I prefilled the filter with a quart of oil and it didn't even get full.

My Haynes manual says 4qts (w/o filter). I use the 400sbc (big)filters on my cars which hold an extra quart. Standard only hold a ½qt
