how do i find my wheel play?

i have my steering shaft off right now, about to replace the rag joint on it. Is there anything else i need to check on that intermediate shaft besides the rag joint? also, is there anything i need to check on the gearbox while i have the shaft off? this wheel play and car wandering is driving me nuts. thanks.

You could check for play in all of the joints in the steering, if you haven't already done that. Jack the car up and have someone turn the road wheel whilst you check the joints.

Mark.

Also, on this rag joint...the "blind splines" dont match up to the old rag joint's blind splines...does this matter? The new rag joint splines probably wont match up with the steering gearbox input gear splines either...will this make a difference or should it all still be okay as long as i clamp the rag joint down to the gear box good? thanks a lot for your help fellas...I am kind of in a bind with this intermediate shaft with a half sawed off rag joint in my lap.

Turn the ignition on, to unlock the steering. Rock the wheel (steering) back an forth until it starts actually doing something, look for where the slop is.

It helps to have a friend hep with this.
