Bog at 2500-3000 rpms...
well i finally got my car on the road today, so I could see what she could do...when you go through the gears, its pretty solid up to about 2500, then it like falls on its face and gets kinda choppy but its more or less bogginess, then once it gets outta it, it just screams...
its a rebuilt 350 block, alum l98 heads, 276HR cam, HSR intake, 26# injectors, and the AFPR is set at about 45 PSI...they told me to start at approximate 50, but I thought that was too much because the stock rating is 30-35...i'm not sure if that could be the problem? its also real jerky at lower rpms, like when i come to stop, the thing just keeps jerking real violently...the timing has been checked and rechecked, and I have it set pretty good...the distributor cap/rotor/coil is all stock units, could it maybe a problem in that?
does anybody knwo what could cause these 2 things?

well turns out, the gauge was bad, and it was set at 60 psi....so we cranked it down to about 35, and it got rid of it a little, but still does it...it just bogs under a load....
timing maybe?

i played with the timing a little, not a whole lot, it didn't affect much...i'm startin to think thats not the problem...
do you guys think the cap/coil could be the problem, would that cause this?
Its running a little rough, not bad, but its terrible when you get into that certain rpm range...
can somebody help me out here...

off the shelf chips suck big donkey sack.
Did they burn the chip while you were on the dyno or at the track?

i filled out that questionaire they have, and they "supposebly" burn the chip to match your new mods...its custom burnt non the less, but it was not tuned on a dyno or anything...i had it at a mechanic shop last week, and i know it was running better when it went there, and he said he had the chip out, then put it back in, maybe he put it in wrong...i'm gonna look into that tonight.
also with the new chip, i get a code that says something about the prom...what does this mean?

If it is code 41 or code 51, it means that the chip is either installed wrong, has a bent prong, not seated properly, or is the wrong chip for your car.

well i guess i'll have to find out which code it is then...because the mechanic is the one that said it was a code concerning the prom...
i know there is something you can do with a paper clip and the ALDL port to find out the code....can somebody tell me how to do this, or i guess i could just go ask the mechanic too..

w/ the key off, take a paper clip and make it into a U. Take the two ends and cross the two top left holes on the ALDL port. Turn on the key. You will notice that the SES light will begin to flash. It will flash a generic code for the first 3 times IIRC, then it will start w/ any codes stored in the ecm. It repeats the code 3 times IIRC, then goes to the next.

Before you go sticking that paper clip in the ALDL, it is the top two holes on the right side of it and not on the left side. See enclosed picture. Supreme Member

well i ripped the chip out, and noticed that my mechanic reinstalled it backwards...put it in there the right way, I think, and the check engine light went off...that means its in the right way then right?
Also is it normal for it to run real ruff at first with the new chip? because i'm trying to adjust the timing on it with the new chip, and it will hardly stay running....does it have to relearn everythign with the new chip or what?

what should my Fuel pressure be at? its holley rails, HSR intake, and AFPR....from what i heard it should be at like 50psi....but my dad says no, don't go more than 35 psi...and i feel thats not enough
so should I jack it back up? when it runs now, i give it some gas, then it seems like it almost runs out of fuel...its wierd...

Stock is 42-46 IIRC. Mine was set at 43 from the factory. I adjusted it up to about 48.
The chip should only go in one way into the ecm. The memcal has a notch that only fits one way as far as I know. At least my 89 is that way.

so it should be like 50 psi then right...
well this is how i got it installed...tell me if its right...
i got the stock one plugged into the those little needles coming out of the side of the aftermarket one..then i got the new chip/adapter plugged into the slot on the computer...the stock one stands up on edge tucked into the computer, and the aftermarket one lays flat....i have that moates adapter by the way with the chip installed, then the old prom is plugged into the adapter...this is right isn't it?

thats exactly how i got mine installed...so that should be right
all i need to know now is, what should my Fuel pressure be at?
and is it normal for the engine to run all crappy at first with the new chip? does it have to relearn everything with the new chip or what? because i'm having trouble keeping it running on the new chip to check the timing..

well i had it running for a good 10-15 minutes, and there was no improvement, so then i took the PCM4LESS memory adapter/chip out, and put just my stock one back in, took it for a ride, and it drives pretty decent actually....there is a slight bog at lower rpms, but thats on a stock tune too...there is no bog throughout the power range, so I came to the conclusion that the chip is garbage...i'm gonna call pcmforless tomorrow...i don't see why it would run sh*ttier on the aftermarket chip than it would on the new one...boggles my mind
