Cruise control cable question

My cruise control was removed when I got my car (305 TPI) and I'd love to have it back. The cable that connects to the throttle linkage (?) isn't tight. Its from a V6 and it has about 3/4" travel until it starts opening up the throttle. I assume its supposed to sit flush, am I right?

The cable that connects to the cruise control servo and to the throttle body should not have any travel in it without the throttle opening.

Maybe you can adjust the cable. On the servo assembly where the cable attaches to there are about 6 holes there. You slide the clip and pull the cable out. Maybe you need to mount the cable more towards the front of the car.

Try that and see if it removes the slack you have.

Thanks alot. Its on the second to last hole already so that one hole didn't change it enough. I'm going to track down a 305 cable now. Thanks for the tip.

On my 305 TPI the cable is mounted in the center hole on the RHS. That is where it should be.

Can the cable be shortened if it is too long?

I know I can shorted the bracket that attaches to the throttle, but I'm not sure if I really want to screw around with that. Not to mention I'll have to glue it which will look sloppy.
