Bronze dist. gear needed?

My car had 130,000 Km on it when I swapped cams. I plan to replace the dist. gear ( the timing is jumping around 2-3 deg). Do I replace it with the stock one or do I use a bronze gear?
Thanks,
Jeff

Stock. They use a standard iron distrib gear on the stock roller cams. Only aftermarket billet cams need the bronze or mellonized gear. The factory rollers are cast steel.

BTW, it's a borg warner part if the parts guy needs help (it took me awhile waiting...) about $25 or so.

Joel, he does not have a stock roller cam; check his signature, he's running a CompCam.

Jeff, the instructions with your cam should have indicated if you need to use a bronze distributer gear. You should give CompCams a call (1-800-999-0853) and ask them to be certain. If a bronze gear is required, using an iron gear will cause rapid wear on your cam's gear. However, if not required, you don't want to use one as bronze gears wear much more rapidly than iron gears. It seems I was told they require replacement about every 15-20,000 miles.

as you were told, if it's an aftermarket billet cam you need the bronze gear.

comp cams hydrollers are ground using a special core. Its called austempered and it does not need a bronze gear.

All of the Comp hydraulic roller cams I've ever run, including the one in my car right now, have the stock dist gear, and work just fine.

Thanks for your replies. I called Comp cams this morning and they say I can use the stock gear.
