Compressor removal

On the serpentine system, can the a/c compressor be removed without taking the main bracket off the motor?

Yes, it can. There are just 3 bolts holding the AC compressor in, 2 fairly long bolts on the side and 1 short bolt down on the bottom. Just take a look at the back of the AC compressor right in front of the driver's side valve cover, you should easily see all 3 of them.
