Power door lock problem
Power door lock problem
Okay, my door locks have always worked fine. Recently, when I press the button, the passenger door lock wiggles, but does not fully lock. I was wondering what is wrong, and why it won't fully lock anymore. I have to reach over and manually lock it, ah what a pain.
And also I have a problem with my driver's side power window. Maybe the two are related... But anyway the window on the drivers side is slower than the passenger side. One time it actually stopped scrolling, and I had to turn off the car and turn it back on for it to work. I'm thinking its maybe a bad ground?
Just wondering what I can do to see what's wrong.

Not sure about your power locks.
Almost certain your power window motor is bad. The next time it stops working when you press the switch, release the switch, wait about 30 seconds and try it again. If it moves a bit then stops then your motor is toast.

Your door lock problem is likely a worn rubber bushing at the end of the actuator. The linkage connects to the actuator there. When worn, the lock may only work in one direction, or not at all. I don't know if you can buy just the bushing. The service manual doesn't mention it.
YEAH it unlocks fine... What should I do about it?
And how would I go about cleaning the track? Do I have to remove the window or what? I wanna do it this weekend while its warm. I need to adjust my windows anyway to move them up a fraction.

I had similar problems on my '86 IROC. Let's start with the power door locks...
Like someone previously mentioned, it could be an issue with the door lock linkages located inside the door. Take off the door panel (search the archives for info on this) and you'll see where the linkage rod goes. I took some lithium grease and put it all over the linkages, solenoid, everything. I used the "cream" kind, but I hear that the aerosol kind may work better. The door lock still sometimes sticks but not nearly as bad as before.
Windows: To clean the track, you have to take off the door panel too. You'll see the inside the door where the track is attached to the window glass. Just get some more lithium grease and put it on the track and move the window up and down to get a good covering. Again, the aerosol lithium grease may work better than the cream that I used. I would recommend doing this anyway, because it speeds up your windows a bit... I shaved about a full second off by cleaning the track! (I was bored one night, haha)
Hope this helps ya, shoot me an email if you have any questions.
