cracked neck of fuel tank.... please help

no pressure in gas tank when i unscrew the cap b/c the neck is cracked...... is this dangerous??? im getting no leaks, but i do smell gas in the back of the car after driving. the only way i can fix it is to drop the tank and weld the neck where it is cracked.

basically i just want to know how this can effect the cars performance, or what else it can effect. thanks!

Go to a GM dealer and have your VIN chequed for the infamous fillerneck recall, it was for '89 cars and up, so maybe you're lucky!!
I cured the leaking fillerneck on my car by putting epoxy sealer around it, it does the job well!
Just unbolt the straps that hold the tank in place, and you have just enough space to reach the leaking spot(s).
It doesn't hurt your car performances at all, but is potential dangerous in case of fire...!!

I am having almost the same problem as you except I do get a pressure noise from the gas tank when I fill up...problem is after I am done filling I smell gas at the back of the car after I am done driving. I really dont know what it is and I am trying to figure it out.

I made a topic on this a short while ago but no one responded...

The recall does not cover 89's and my 89 had the same problem.
Thanks JB weld.

well, i appreciate all your help. thanks a lot. i guess im just gonna end up dropping the tank, and having my dad weld the crack wherever it may be. (i will obvioulsy empty the tank first.......) anyway, thanks again about the recall information, ill give the dealership a call tomorrow and see if they say anything about that.
