Need help with a wire connector

I have a 89 IrocZ 350 TPI

ok I was just che king some stuff on my motor and I found this wire connector that was connected to anything. I followed the wire and its the sensor that goes into the plenium. I cant figure out where this wires goes because there is no place or any other wires around anywhere it would go. By the way this is a new engine and I had all the emissions stuff taken off. The EGR thing is hooked up either. Vaccume line is plugged with a screw. Well tell me what u think or where this connector plugs into?

If it's a 1 wire plug it prolly went to the temp switch in the egr base.

2 wires, IAT sensor...

Yes, connect it. Never leave anything you could(should) connect disconnected.

yeah but I cant find the wire where it connects. There is the sensor in the plenium there a wire from the sensor that goes about 3 inches then stops with a connector thing where it would plug into something. But I cant find out where it plugs into. There is no wire for it anywhere.

It probably fell behind the distributor. Just trace every wire from the harness near the rear of the engine and you will find it.

read your post and it might give you a clue as to why people don't respond to your post. does it make sense to you? does it have any typos that make it hard to follow or understand? doesn't have to be perfect or typo free but you do need to be able to convey what you want to say and in as few words as you can. i read it quite a few times and never got a handle on what you were asking. if all the emission controls were removed there ought to be a lot of unused wires laying around. there is also a chance you have a harness in your car and don't have an accessory for it to plug into.

ok sorry about that i guess its just when I am mad I saw too much. Well last night and today I looked everywhere for a connector that would plug into the MAT thing and there is one no where. By the way I have the MAF version I should have it. Can anyone tell me where on the wire harness the MAT is or starts?

Ok, here's the scoop on the MAT wires. It goes under the plenum and plugs into the sensor, then, there is a short "pigtail" for lack of a better word, to another connector. This is where some people put a resister that makes the ECM think the temperature under the hood is always 40something degrees. So, it's not going to look like it plugs in directly. Search the boards, read the FAQs and you'll find it and probably the wire colors too.

Like said before, if it's just one wire, it's probably the EGR temp. sensing wire. If your EGR is disconnected and not setting codes, don't worry about it.

I think you need a good book on TPI installations. Helm's in my choice but some of the swap books are good too. You need to learn what all those sensors and wire connectors/colors are because your description of the problem leaves most of us just guessing.

You also say wire, (as in one wire) in some messages, these and them (as in more than one) in others, leaves us about as lost as you. Wish I could see it because I like nothing better than helping someone fix something!

You also say this is a new engine and you had all the emissions stuff taken off. Can you go ask whoever put the engine in and took the stuff off what the wire(s) went to.

ok well it is 2 wires but 1 connector. Its the wire from the MAT. It goes from the sensor to that pigtail thing like you said. I just need to know onm harness where this pigtail connects too. I have looked everywhere and cannot find where it plugs into. yeah well I am going to go ask the ppl who did my engine what they took off and so for.

Since you have a MAF car... and since you have no EGR now, why do you need the IAT? All it does is control when to command EGR.

I'm not sure about this part, but...

If it's not throwing a code, I wouldn't worry about it. If it is, a well placed resistor from a wire under the dash to ground will take care of it.

i think i know the wire your talking about, look behind the destributor, its a sneaky mother... took me forever to find the damn thig... i had to take my destributor out to find it.... i learned a helpfull trick though... when your putting the engine in, tie up all the wires with kite string... that way, you can find everything....

but yeah, look behind the destributor...

just a little side question... why doesnt my signiture work?

later

jon

alright thanks sunbound I will keep looking and see what I can find. Well see I built the for my car but I had some stupid red necks but it in. I already have found 3 bolts from engine to transmission that were finger tight loose. But ya It is throwing a code. I havent checked them in a while but its all good for about 10 or 15 minutes then the light comes on and never comes off so ya.
