need help- girdle/oil pan problems
here is the deal: i have a roller 350 block that i am in the process of building/stroking to replace the tired 406 that's in my s-10 right now. i bought a main girdle for the 2 bolt- and the stock late model oil pan won't fit around the girdle. it's my understanding that girdles always require some "massaging" to get them to fit correctly- is this true? also- will the 400 oil pan i have now fit on the late model roller 350 block i have? if so- is it any wider or have the strengthening ribs that the 350 pan apparently has. i can't see any of this first hand as one of my friends that teaches auto shop at a college 2 states over is doing the machine work for me. he is a mopar guy- so he doesn't know much about the chevy oil pans. he says we either need something a little wider or no strengthening ribs in order to get the pan to clear- or at least clear with a less grinding involved. he also said the oil pan that he has there at the shop for a late model roller slants inward a little- and he thinks the 400 pans don't do that- anyone want to confirm this?

it's in an s-10 - so what works and doesn't work in a camaro doesn't really mean a lot in my situation. there is already a 400 in the truck now- and everything is functional- including the dip stick

The oil pan is formed where the dipstick enters thru the block, the 400 has this on the drivers side, the 350 will have it on the passenger side. Does not matter what it sits in, it still will not fit.

what is the widest stock replacement type oil pan out there then? i don't want/need some high $$ 42 quart pan- i just want a stock replacement type.
