attn: AC Delco Rapidfire users.

i really want to get back to using delcos ...and i figured i would try the rapidfires. HOWEVER, all i can find is ones factory gapped at .045! I have a 91 305 RS which as most calls for .035 gap. is there something i don't know? do you guys go with the larger gap or do you "bang it" down a bit? i have heard of larger gapping, but i always thought it was taboo for a basically stock car. thanks in advance!

Hey man, I bought the AC Delco Rapid Fire plugs, I am very happy with them. When I bought them, I checked the gaps, and thought they were too big, so I gapped them back to .035 like it says to gap plugs on the sticker under my hood. Well I took the car to my mechanic friend's shop for him to do the tune-up for me, and when he was done I asked him how everything went, and I told him that I gapped the plugs for him. He told me they were wrong, and that he re- gapped them. And that they are supposed to be.045 with those plugs. I didn't believe him, so he had this big manual that he pulled out and showed me. He explained the reason to me, but I really don't remember what it was. Maybe because they burn hotter. Not sure though. But you did purchase the right plugs. Hopefully this helps you a little.

Many people say that the stock .035 gap is very conservative for our ignitions. .045 should be fine. I'm running .05 but i've got MSD and Crane Fireball coil and wires.

I ran mine at a .050 gap with a MSD 6A, Hypertech coil and MSD low resistance wires and had great results from when I took out the Bosch platinums with a .045 gap and put the .050 gaped Rapidfires in the old T/A. No the old plugs were not fowled, they only had 3000 miles on them.

Bigger gap won't hurt anything as long as your plug wires are in good shape.

I also have the Rapidfires, @.045". I slapped a set of 'vette heads on my Camaro and when I went to Advance I just went ahead and got what they had listed for the 'vettes in '88. Don't know if it matters, but, I'm running Accel wires, cap, rotor, and coil.

How does the gap of the plugs affect the car's performance. I have a 300+ wires and then AC cap, rotor and rapid fires gapped at .035, what would changing that gap to .045+ do?
