Third Gen weight and small block chevy...
Ok I really didn't know what board to put this on... since its a question of body AND engine... but
can anyone find me the weight of a 1984 Camaro Sport Coupe? Will a 305 weight about the same as a 350? Is a th350 about as much as a 700r4?
I'm trying to get an idea of how much my car will weigh with the 350 in there... its not running yet so I can't get it actually weighed.... just wanna get number to work off of
Thx

A 305 and 350 weigh about the same. The TH350 is somewhat lighter than the 700R4 though.

thats good to know! I just wanna know if my car will be light enough with the mods I have to the 350, if it'll hit a very high 14.

Axle/Gears: I'm working on it,lol.
The weight of your car should be somewhere between 3245 and 3345 lbs. depending on what power accesories and so forth are on it.

Well all i have for my car is
1980 LM1, 8.2:1 compression, 190 hp/280 torque factory rating
edelbrock performer rpm intake
holley 600 cfm carb
vacuum advance curve kit
free mods, mostly deletes (no ac/smog)
hedman full length hedders, 1 5/8 tubes, 3 inch collector
3.42 rear
th350
i do plan a trip to scribner asap. Theres rumor goin around that it'll be closing down.
do you think I'm being to optimistic high 14? Or are you saying I should actually be expecting it?

Well, the low compression, low flowing heads and the mild cam will definately hold you back. The RPM intake won't really have a chance to get working.
But, I think you'll hit the 14's. How deeply is the only question.
About Scribner: What I've heard is the owner wants the county to pave the road going to the track, 1-1/4 mile or so. The county wants to split the cost with him - he doesn't want to do that, and has said if they don't cover the entire cost, he'll take his ball and go play someplace else. They'll most likely finish the season, though.

Yep, I plan on fixing the cam problem at the end of summer. So far I'm lookin at an xe268 ... nothing set in stone though, just looks best for what i want out of my motor.
I think I need to lose some weight lol. I'm 6'3 270, so I'm a big guy adding major weight to that car.
and about the paving, you are correct. I'm afraid there will be no track next year so I'm rushing to get my car done so I can at least get a few runs in and maybe even when I have the new cam in.
At the moment, I'm also lookin for some cheap SBC heads that'll help bump up the compression a bit or at least have better flow numbers.

Kearney isn't that far from Lincoln.
You should be able to find some 416 or 601 305 heads around. Start on the classifieds on this board.
I think taking 50 lb out of the driver's seat has helped my ET's.

how come 305 heads? Is it for compression? Woudl they really flow any better than the 883 *think they are* heads i have now?
Kearney is good for maybe 2 trips a month heh, not alot of highway travel for me with the mileage i'll be seeing.

They will increase your pathetic compression and if ported with bigger valves flow much better.
305 heads are just the ticket for some cheap performance upgrades for your 350.

With your current setup, I'd guess than a low 15 would be optimistic. That 8.2 compression with those heads and that cam are going to kill you. I also would go with a cam much smaller than the XE268 for your setup. XE268 will want to rev too high for those heads and the LOW compression of that motor is going to benefit by having a smaller cam. Maybe something along the lines of an XE256. If you got some better heads, an XE268 would be very nice to use, or maybe even an XE274. With better heads, higher compression, and a bigger cam, you should see 13s.

Well i'd rather build for what I plan on doing. I'd hate to get a 256... then like a month later get a nice pair of heads and boom, im stuck paying for another cam becaues the 256 doesnt do me right.
I'm pretty much planning heads/cam together... maybe even get heads first.
