305 VIN E base timing
305 VIN E base timing
Have a '89 Camaro RS with the basic , stock, 305 VIN E. Need to set ignition timing but all the manuals including the GM service manual say set timing per the underhood decal. Trouble is the decal is long gone. Anyone know the base timing ?

with the brown/white (i believe) connector disconnected base timing should be set to 0*. or for a slight performance gain you can set it anywhere from 2-8* and use premium gas.

As stated above the base setting with the EST dissconnected is 0°. I would not run more than 4° advanvced. There really isn't any significant performance gain and you will more than likely have to run a higher octane fuel. A few degrees base will give you sligthly better throttle responce. Once of the advantages swirl port heads have is that they don't need and don't like a lot of initial base timing.
