Check Engine light under WOT
Hey Guys,
To start I'm pretty new to this message board, I came from TransAMGTA.com which has unfortunatly been shut down. I'm hoping to get some great advice from this forum
I've got a 1992 Trans AM GTA w/the L98 and 700R4 tranny...pretty much stock with the exception of a FlowMaster American Thunder exhaust (stock exhaust rusted out), throttle body bypass mod, and an adjustable TPS switch (been on for well over a year). The car has 49,800 miles and has been babied for most of its life, so its in pretty good shape.
After work I took a co-worker for a "spirited" ride through town. After opening her up off a traffic light the "Service Engine" light came on during WOT acceleration, stayed on for about 10sec. then turned off. I drove for a few minutes without problem. Then I gave her another WOT acceleration and the light came back on...then turned off after a few seconds. Afterwards the car ran perfect like always with no problems. Later this evening in attempt to reproduce the problem I floored it again resulting in the light kicking back on, then turning off shortly after.
I'm lost!! Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?? I was thinking maybe fuel system, however the fuel pump has less than 500 miles on it, fuel filter is the same. The car was had good oil pressure too under WOT and ran perfect. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
BTW, the car has the stock plugs, distributor cap etc. I'm planning a good tune-up in the near future, could that have anything to do with it?? Thanks, Keith.

check to see if the code was there long enough to be stored. The specific code will help more then anything to find the problem. To check your codes, see the tech articles.

same thing happened to me today except the car is a little weird.
Every time I go down on a road called Bear Canyon the service engine soon light clicks on, this has happened twice thus far and only on Bear Canyon, no other road, not even the crappiest, shoddiest road in town.
Kinda weird, I may need to do a tune up soon on the car as it is about time (last full service engine tune up was around 70k miles, now the car has 108k on it)
But yeah, sometimes it does that though I dont know why.

Perhaps your car is reacting to the $3.00+ per gallon gas prices, nah...if anything the car would run better. The only thing I can say is to check the stored codes if there are any. Could also be the ecm detecting misfires and only under WOT, if that's the case it would make sense that the ecm doesn't actually set the code. Check the plug wires etc or just replace them if they're worn. One other possibility, although I only heard this from a friend once. It could be a "Don't beat on me" light.....
