Car STILL won't start!?!
I tried yesterday and it sputtered a little. Found the TDC on the compression stroke and my distibutor was 180deg the wrong way. I fixed that and the #1 spark plug wire on the distibutor is even with the rotor at TDC. Today the car wouldn't even sputter or try to start. Near the end of me playing with the idle and how much gas it had before i tried starting it it started shooting gas out of the top of the carb. The fuel lvl in the bowl's is staying where it's supposed to, i've got great spark, and it still didn't do anything when i was playing with the dist cap while cranking. What else should i check now? If its the carb, i don't see what could be keeping it from starting or at least trying to start. I've had my other car's realy outta tune and they still started and ran..

hey i think i know whats with ur car this happened to me with my z. after we played with the car and everything and puttin plug wires in order it still wouldent start and it would back fire or shot gas from the carb. the problem is ur distributer and hopefully u didnt short out the coil yet. so id have the distributer checked by a shop becuz thats how i found out my distributer shorted out and also killed the coil. so id have the entire distributer checked first. hope that helps.

It's an MSD mechanical distributor. I took it apart when i pulled the engine last year and last week, i cleaned all the parts and put it back together with new springs, cap and rotor. I don't think the coil's bad considering the huge blue spark it had when i checked it today. But then again, i can't see why its backfiring through the carb. Could something bad on the carb cause it to backfire?
