BBC Timing chain cover ??????
Well I'm finally putting together my Gen VI L29 Vortec 454. I got my timing chain cover from the dealership. Got it home and was gonna put it on, when I noticed a hole in the bottom. Can't figure it out. There are two smaller holes on the sides but they aren't tapped. Any ideas????
Gen 6? Late model stuff?
Probably a crank position sensor fitting. Never worked on that model of big block myself but I'll give you good odds that's what it's for. That's roughly where the crank position sensor is on my 1998 4.3L Vortec V6. Probably same deal on a late model big block.

I found out what it is. Its the crank position sensor. Its 3/4", so I'm gonna try a freeze plug. For all of you BBC wannabe's, IMO, Gen VI aren't worth the money. If I had to do it again, I would just buy a good Mark IV. Nothing interchanges. Parts are three times the price. One big headache.
